ACCORDING TO SCRIPT: PM orders probe into claim an Opposition Leader involved in Sabah intrusion

KANGAR -- Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak has ordered the intelligence authorities to investigate a claim that an opposition leader had a hand in the armed intrusion in Lahad Datu, Sabah.
He said the allegation was a serious matter but there must be strong evidence to identify the mastermind.
Najib said he was puzzled as to why the armed men came to Sabah at a time when the country was about to hold a general election when the Sulu Sultanate had laid claim to Sabah a long time ago.
ACCORDING TO SCRIPT: PM orders probe into claim an Opposition Leader involved in Sabah intrusion"All avenues must be investigated. (Philippine) President (Benigno S.) Aquino (III) also wants to know the truth. The whole episode is a major embarrassment for the Philippine government.
"They do not wish to see their citizens involved in aggression, violence, use of weapons and killing of our people," he told reporters after opening the main campus of Universiti Malaysia Perlis (UniMAP) in Pauh, near Kangar on Sunday.
The prime minister was commenting on foreign media reports that an opposition leader had a hand in the intrusion by the group claiming to be the royal army of the Sulu Sultanate
The Philippine Daily Inquirer had used a Reuters news agency article quoting a Philippine military officer as saying the intruders had come on the "invitation" of a Malaysian opposition politician.
The Manila Times had reportedly claimed that the incursion was related to the Malaysian opposition's campaign to give Sabah autonomy if they win.

Dr M jumps onto Lahad Datu bandwagon to blame Opposition: Co-ordinated conspiracy?

Dr M jumps onto Lahad Datu bandwagon to blame Opposition: Co-ordinated conspiracy? It is time to take drastic action against the Filipino armed men after their intrusion turned deadly in Lahad Datu and Semporna, Sabah, said former prime minister Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad.

"There is no way out other than launching a counter-attack to eliminate the Sulu group.

"Although many of them will be killed, this cannot be avoided because they had attacked Sabah, and not the other way round," he told reporters after addressing a gathering organised by the Perak branch of Perkasa, a Malay right group, here today.

However, Mahathir cautioned the authorities to be prepared for retaliations from remnants of the group after they were decimated or got rid of Sabah.

He said the Royal Malaysian Navy needed to tighten its surveillance on Sabah waters and check on boats from Tawi-Tawi and Jolo islands that could be smuggling in intruders or arms.

"We cannot underestimate them, even though at first we think that their attempt to capture Sabah is a futile act, but they can become guerrillas and launch sporadic attacks in future," he said.
Internal or external threat

On adverse reaction over the government's decision to allow the police to move in first, instead of the armed forces, Dr Mahathir said the country's security threats were based on whether they were internal or external threats.

"External threats are handled by the armed forces while internal threats are dealt with by the police.

"At first we did not think the intrusion was as an external threat for they were on our shore. However, when it is clear that the invasion is an attack from outside, the military was ordered to move in," he added.

Kiram asks Aquino: Help us, not the Malaysians

MANILA, Philippines—Sultan Jamalul Kiram on Friday called on President Benigno Aquino III to help them, not the Malaysians
“Tulungan nyo naman kami. Ang nakikita ko, ang tinutulungan nya ay hindi ang Pilipino. I am just surprised,” Kiram said at a press conference aired over Radyo Inquirer 990AM.
Kiram made the call following the firefight that broke out between his supporters and Malaysian forces in Lahad Datu early Friday morning.
Instead of helping his fellow Filipinos, Kiram asked why the government was instead considering the filing of criminal case against him.
“Dapat tulungan nila kami. Hindi kami ang kakasuhan,” Kiram said, adding that he preferred talking personally to President Aquino instead of an emissary on how to resolve the situation in Lahad Datu.
Kiram reiterated that he and his family were pressing for the ownership of Sabah based ‘‘on historical truth.”
He also expressed dismay over the “studies” being conducted by the Philippine government over the legality of their claim on Sabah.

Pemberontakkan Sulu: Sandiwara Atau Tidak, Kerajaan Tetap Harus Bertanggungjawab

Catatan Umum
3 Mac 2013

Terkini: 6 polis maut, 6 anggota kumpulan bersenjata terbunuh

MANILA, Philippines --- Moro National Liberation Front (MNLF) founding Chairman Nur Misuari yesterday appealed to Malaysia to settle the Sabah standoff peacefully and warned that his group will come to the aid of Sultan Jamalul Kiram III’s followers if blood spills.
“I hope they will not harm them. They (Kiram’s followers) are our brothers. If one drop of their blood is spilled, we might be forced to come to their aid,” Misuari said.
“Please don’t touch them, give them a friendly and brotherly treatment,” Misuari appealed.
Misuari was in Zamboanga City yesterday for the MNLF leadership meeting, which he said was attended by some 2,000 leaders from across Mindanao to discuss various issues facing the Bangsamoro people.
When he was in Jolo, Sulu, over the week, Misuari said that what he heard was that the group of the Crown Prince Rajah Muda Agbimuddin Kiram, younger brother of Kiram, crossed the sea to the island because they were allegedly promised to be settled in Sabah by Prime Minister Dato Seri Haji Mohammad Najib bin Tun Haji Addul Razak.

Menurut berita ABC CBN News, Khamis 21 Februari 2013, Idjirani menunjukkan beberapa dokumen tuntutan Sulu atas Sabah.

Sultanate to invoke 1915 pact with US

THE SULTANATE of Sulu is considering seeking the intercession of the US government in pressing its claim to Sabah by invoking a 1915 agreement with the US colonial government in the Philippines.
Abraham Idjirani, spokesperson for the sultan of Sulu, said the sultanate was considering invoking the Kiram- Carpenter Agreement of March 22, 1915.
Under that agreement, signed by US-appointed Governor of Mindanao and Sulu Frank W. Carpenter with the sultan of Sulu relinquished the sultan’s and his heirs’ right to temporal sovereignty, tax collection and arbitration laws.
In exchange, the sultan got an allowance, a piece of land and recognition as religious leader.
The agreement did not cover the territory of North Borneo, which the sultanate had leased to the British North Borneo Company.
Moral obligation
Idjirani said that under the agreement, the United States also agreed to give “full protection to the sultan of Sulu should the question of Sabah arise in the future between the sultanate and any foreign authority.”
“We will remind them of their moral obligation. That obligation is not to use violent means but to help find a solution,” Idjirani said.
Princess Jacel Kiram, Sultan Jamalul Kiram III’s daughter, said the ball was now in the court of the Philippine and Malaysian governments.
“We are saddened and dismayed by the treatment of the government of this issue. We are trying our best to understand why we are treated this way, because it’s unacceptable,” she said.
Holding their ground
“We offer the 10 lives that were lost to our dear President and to Secretary Mar Roxas. I hope they do not wait for more people to be killed before they wake up and address the situation properly,” she added, referring to the followers of the sultan who were killed in a clash with Malaysian police in Tanduao village in Lahad Datu town, Sabah, on Friday.
By midnight Friday after hours of discussion, Jamalul decided that his brother Agbimuddin and his remaining 224 followers would hold their ground in Sabah.
“The Sultan came to a decision at midnight, weighing the lives of ( 224) and his brother and the aspiration that the ancestral land be recognized by Malaysia. The decision is to stay put,” Idjirani said yesterday morning.
Open to talks
“This is not being stubborn. The sultan is open to talks,” he said, reiterating that only the sultanate could talk about disengagement with the Malaysian Embassy.
Idjirani said Malacañang’s “small window of opportunity” to end the standoff was not acceptable because all the government wanted was Agbimuddin’s group pullout from Sabah, without assurance of negotiations involving the sultanate’s claim to Sabah.

Sulu royalty open to talks, wants recognition of Sabah claim

Malaysia Manila sends in navy to ship out Sulu gunmen February 25, 2013 Jamalul speaks to reporters, surrounded by photographers, during a brief news conference in front of the Blue Mosque in Taguig city, south of Manila on February 22, 2013. — Reuters picKUALA LUMPUR, March 3 — The violent incursion into Sabah that has claimed 22 lives could be resolved peacefully if Manila would only endorse the Kiram clan's claim to the north Borneo state, heirs to the Sulu sultanate told a Philippine newspaper today.
Self-professed Sulu sultan, Jamalul Kiram III told the Philippine Daily Inquirer he was still open to negotiating with the Aquino administration despite the Philippine president's stand siding with the Malaysian government.
"The negotiation is not too late as I said because everything is open. The door of the sultanate for negotiation is open," Jamalul was quoted as saying in a Manila news conference at his home this afternoon.
Jamalul who claims to descend from the royal Sulu sultanate that had owned the Borneo state -- now a part of Malaysia -- reportedly said the family was only claiming their land.
Jamalul's brother Agbimuddin Kiram, is reported to be the leader of an armed group estimated to number between 100 and 200 men, that landed in Lahad Datu, Sabah on February 9 and have been engaged in gunfights with Malaysian security forces on three fronts.
The months-old Borneo Insider news portal had previously reported that Agbumuddin once served as an assistant district officer in Kudat when Tun Mustapha Harun was Sabah chief minister.
Putrajaya has sent in two battalions to reinforce security forces in the state after seven policemen were killed over the weekend.
The Filipino camp, seen to be intruding in Malaysian territory, has suffered 14 deaths.
Malaysian police are working with the military in a joint manhunt for 10 suspected gunmen said to be linked to the group.
Jamalul told the reporters he was puzzled why the Philippine government was siding with Malaysia.
"Why not side [with] us? We are Filipinos and they side with Malaysia?" he said.
He was reported saying his supporters had made the trip to Sabah only because they wanted to settle down in the land that had belonged to the Sulu sultanate.
"This is not a joke. Malaking gulo ito, malaking gulo ito (This is big trouble)," he told the reporters.
Jamalul was reported saying the territorial matter was a serious one, adding that many Tausugs and Filipino Muslims were prepared to die for their cause.
His daughter, Jacel Kiram, was reported saying the family wanted to meet with an official emissary from Philippine President Benigno Aquino III, one whose communication the government would not later deny.

MANILA, Philippines–The sultan of Sulu Jamalul Kiram III said Sunday he was still open to negotiating with the government, even as he stood his ground on his rejection of its order for his supporters in Sabah to leave without condition.
But as of early afternoon Sunday, no official emissary from the Aquino administration had gotten in touch with the family.
“The negotiation is not too late as I said because everything is open. The door of the sultanate for negotiation is open,” the Sultan told reporters in his home in Taguig City, after morning prayers.
Jamalul made the statement in the face of the Philippine government’s hardline stance on the standoff in Sabah between the sultan’s supporters and the Malaysian police. The sultanate says the supporters are only laying claim to land that is theirs.
President Benigno Aquino III had demanded that the group in Sabah, led by Kiram’s brother Agbimuddin, surrender without conditions. This was after the tension in the area boiled over and led to a gunfight between the two sides that left 12 people dead.
Kiram’s spokesperson, Princess Jacel Kiram, said what the family wanted was for an official emissary to meet with them, one whose communication with them would not be denied by the government later on.

Tan Sri Ismail Omar said the police are working with the military to hunt down 10 suspects, three who are armed, after they escaped from a police siege in Kampung Tanduo, near Lahad Datu where a Filipino Muslim clan claiming ownership of Sabah had dug in since entering the state on February 9.
"To date, the police have succeeded in capturing three intruders who tried to escape from police siege in Kampung Tanduo," he told a news conference in Lahad Datu.

He said the third clash happened yesterday at 6.30pm in Kampung Sri Jaya Simunul in Semporna, and which was the deadliest, as the gunmen ambushed and shot dead five policemen who were conducting a sweep of the village.
Two of the intruders werre gunned down in the shootout, Ismail said.

DIGOS CITY, Philippines—A Filipino man, who was reportedly involved in the ambush of Malaysian police forces, in which five policemen including an officer was killed, was beaten to death by angry residents of a village in Semporna, radio reports from Sabah monitored here said.
The radio stations, broadcasting on shortwave bands, said Semporna police chief Mohammad Firdaus Francis Abdullah had not commented on the incident that took place in Senalang Lama village around 7 a.m.
In a similar report, the Malaysian state media Bernama said its reporter in Semporna had seen the bloodied cadaver of the supposedly elderly man, who had M-16 rifle when beaten to death.
