Melancholic nuclear Merdeka Day

 Eye Wide Wide

AUG 31 — Good Malaysians suffer from a deep melancholy on this Merdeka Day. What does Merdeka Day signify when the tax-paying rakyat are marginalised, cheated, pummelled, demoralised and more?
Just look at the social and economic injustices, the gap between the super-rich BN-Putras and the rest of us kais-pagi-makan-pagi rakyat. And Malaysia is losing its values and principles!
Honesty is no longer the best policy in Malaysia. Millions and billions of taxpayers’ money is wasted! Just look at the embezzlements and fraudulent projects in industries. Merge a couple of companies in a so-called synergy, already gain millions if not billions for the BN-Putras.
GLCs not performing? OK, asset stripping, and more of the merge and demerge tricks. Land-grabbing and cronyism, so prevalent that many a dynasties are built on this alone, and the poor natives are further marginalized.

Kick backs? So rampant that it becomes “normal”. Consultancies and project costing? The con boys charge at least 400 per cent more than the original cost at least, remember the screw-drivers case? Oh well, what about the non-functioning submarine, the patrol boats, the fighter jets, the china train, etc?
Education system? Down the drain. Independent police and judiciary? On the contrary. After all, the “Correct, correct, correct” case is legendary. Intrigues and plots? More complicated than the James Bond movies involving C4, diamonds, sex, balaclavas, submarines, etc.
Government agencies ineptness? Legendary. Singularly inept uncertified lab of the Chemistry Department shamed in court, Mida/Miti, AELB and DoE in the case of Lynas; not to forget the Election officials and the magical Abracadabra election rolls that seem to include dead people, or as recently found out, Indonesian PRs who got citizenship within four hours of being found out.
And, of course, APCO and FBC public relations scandals that shook the world media, from BBC to CNBC etc. And the list goes on!
Apropos public relations, on this Merdeka Day, the news broke about seven-digit fees that will soon be collected by some PR company to prep Malaysia to be more open towards the nuclear industry by 2013!
Nuclear Industry promoted by Peter Chin’s ministry of so-called green energy? What grand folly! Malaysia cannot even handle Mitsubishis’ Asian Rare Earth wastes from approximately twenty years ago, and has already bungled up on the Lynas plant radioactive wastes management plans (planned for only barely 10 years when operation is for 20 years, and additionally the radioactive wastes will be permanently left in Kuantan).
Dear Peter Chin, please let us know first how Malaysia plans to dispose the nuclear waste and deal with decommissioning plans and potential location of the disposal sites, as well as emergency plans for accidents similar to the scope of Fukushima?
Oh, you haven’t got that far scientifically? But already hiring PR firm?! Even modern, industrialised countries could not cope with nuclear wastes and emergencies. Japan not, Germany also not. In fact, Germany is shutting down its nuclear power plants pronto!
Peter Chin, would not that seven-digit PR fee be better used to promote the REAL sustainable green energy such as solar and wind, which have been done successfully world-wide?
The Good Malaysians say a clear “No!” to nuclear energy!
The results from the next general election will reflect this concern for our safety! Merdeka! Merdeka! Merdeka!
