It is without doubt that Malaysia has come to a crossroad. Recent events have lent that eerie feeling that something big is about to happen soon. Opposition Leader Anwar Ibrahim has warned that Emergency rule may be an option to deter the Bersih Rally, and used by Prime Minister Najib Razak's BN government as an excuse to clamp down on the Pakatan Rakyat opposition front.Incredulously, Bersih, which means clean, is now a dirty word. Yellow is worn at your own peril. The authorities are clamping down hard on Bersih organizers, while participants in Bersih road-shows are slapped with ridiculous charges that border on the insane. More than 100 activists and supporters have been arrested, including foreigners. Daily reports in the mainstream media talks about a foreign plot to topple a democratically elected government. Alleged Christian funding by foreign NGO’s are splashed in the daily news.
The Government of Malaysia has warned Malaysians of a grave Communist plot by 30 PSM supporters mostly of Indian descent. MIC, PPP, HRP and Hindraf are very quiet and see no reason to involve them-selves in this matter, which involves mostly PSM Indians. 12 lawyers representing the PSM supporters are unable to quash a further remand order against them. The presiding judge has warned of the serious charges involved before extending their remand, which includes waging a war against the King.
Prior to this, there was also an alleged conspiracy by the minority Christians to take over the country and to install a Christian Prime Minister. NGOs like Perkasa and Pembela lost no time to condemn the alleged plot and vowed a bloody crusade against the Christian community, which shocked the nation. Perkasa went on to warn the Chinese to stock up on food supplies during the July 9 Bersih Rally, as anything could happen.
There is now concerted effort to frighten the non-Malays from joining the Rally with veiled threats of bloodshed. If Malaysians of all races were to stand united on that fateful day, it could spell a very bad omen for the ruling elite.
The BN government, realizing that Bersih activists aren’t going to budge, has left it to the Police to make the ultimate decision whether to impose Emergency rule or not. Although it was the government which was totally against the planned Rally, it has decided to wash its hand by giving PDRM executive powers to contain the threat.
Yes, it is now left to our not-too-bright PDRM to decide whether or not to invoke Emergency laws that can strangle the lifeblood of this nation. Imagine the irresponsibility of our Prime Minister and his BN government. When the going gets tough, the tough must get going. But not him, it seems or the other BN leaders. They have no one to blame but themselves if they seem to care only about clinging to power and nothing else.
What will happen next - the Gory news reports
In a while, over the next few days, the mainstream media will be splashing out gory news and reports about what havoc Emergency rule will create for Malaysia. They will exaggerate and it is actually due to this exaggeration that our country will be harmed, more than anything else.
Because after so many tries to provoke violence, the various races have kept calm - to the great frustration of the BN, no doubt. Now, this is their final thrust. And this is what they will say through their mainstream media in one form or another.
With individual freedoms sharply curtailed, Malaysians will be asked to imagine a total police state, where the Police and Military have the power to arrest anyone suspected of being a threat to national security. There will be Police and Army blocks every 2 kilometers on the road. Everyone will be stopped and searched. Anyone who tries to raise his voice or object can be arrested on the spot.
There may be total chaos as people’s movement will be restricted. Businesses will have to close shop and most entertainment outlets will be affected. Curfew will set in and no one would be allowed on the streets after 6 pm. There may be house-to-house searches to flush out dissidents, and the ISA may be used to silence detractors from trying to plan a revolt. Everyone may have to stay in from dusk till dawn seriously impacting all businesses, which can go bankrupt - even though all in just one day!
Foreign expatriates will flee never to return while the 500,000 legal Bangladeshi workers will be hard pressed to find work. They will start looking at Malaysian women and girls. Our homes, never safe in the first place, will be even more damgerous.
With individual freedom curtailed, there will be the unfortunate ones arrested. Many will be tortured and some will mysteriously disappear for good. It probably will be a 'living hell' on earth. It will also impact our economy seriously, as the world starts to take notice and impose an economic blockade on the country. Such an economic toll will surely cripple the country and precipitate the 2019 bankruptcy, already predicted by Najib's advisers.
If the Emergency persists for more than three months, it will spell the end of our economic advantage, and set us back another 50 years. Emergency Laws will be enacted that will supersede our current laws which will spell the end of democracy. No doubt, there will be racial clashes such as the May 13, as rabble rousers direct their anger at the minority races in the country. Looting and pillage may seem quite possible in such a scenario.
And at the end of the emergency, what’s left of our beloved homeland will be a ghastly sight of smoke ruined buildings, smashed up vehicles, filth covered roads, dead animal carcasses as we emerge shell shocked to scan the horribly scarred landscape which was once our homeland.
Miscalculation
Reminds us of the books we used to read in our teens about Solzhenitsyn's Russia, the Cold War, China's Gang of Four - so scary. But its also just like in Tunisia and Libya recently. And long before that, in US, France, Russia, China and many other countries in the world.
Anyway, no need to break out in cold sweat as this is what the BN is painting. It is what they want Malaysians to imagine and to Fear. For the purpose of pressuring the Bersih and PAS, PKR and DAP to back off. So that Najib and BN can declare victory.
The UMNO elite is beyond redemption, they don't seem to care about the people, they just want to preserve the wealth they have carted overseas and pre-empt any attempt to make them return the people's wealth like the Thaksins, the Marcoses, the Suhartoes and so on.
But despite the MSM's hyperactive imagination, it won't happen in Malaysia because the people here have been smartened by 5 decades of overly blatant mental manipulation. And the truth is - the racial animosity and deep-seated hatred towards one another does not really prevail, it exists largely in the Perkasa and Mahathir circles. Otherwise, PAS - the second largest Malay party - would have merged with UMNO by now.
Baptism of Fire but not a bust-up
Whether on July 9 or another date, Malaysians cannot escape a baptism of Fire. The nation is transforming itself into a democracy. But as long as the UMNO elite are in power, they won't allow it. And this sets the stage for a big standoff. But very likely, our prediction is that of a dragged-out but safe landing rather than the bust-up that Najib and BN are threatening.
Beacuse at the end of the day, what is he actually implying when he says Emergency rule is up to the police? Our PM Najib is actually telling Malaysians that BN will not leave without bloodshed. Imagine the gall!
Malaysia does not belong to the UMNO elite, nor to the BN. It belongs to Malaysians. It is not up to Pakatan either, or PAS or DAP or PKR but Malaysians themselves. The real and burning question is - are Malaysians willing to put up with such a corrupt BN regime and for how long more? The answer is really interesting and will become clear soon.
So lie low, and show your true colors on that Momentous day. But er...forget about yellow underwear, as no one is going to make you squat. Really, let the bullies do their worst. You know what they say about bullies right - face up to them and they will rush off faster than... Rosmah...apparently she was a track queen in her youth!
Now, more than ever, fellow Malaysians, SALAM BERSIH!
