Exco Selangor Nafi Ada Kaitan Dengan Kematian Teoh

Era Najib Atantuya : Malaysia Diperintah Oleh Gani Patail?

GMI: 1,000 petugas PAS kawal demo anti-ISA

Terengganu cuba dijadikan model kerajaan Islam PAS. Kelebihan Terengganu ialah royalti minyak, justeru mereka lebih berpotensi menonjolkan model kepimpinan PAS berbanding Kelantan.

Wang royalti akhirnya jadi Wang Ihsan.

Of Teoh’s tragic death and 1 Malaysia

The announcement of instituting two separate inquiries into the death of Teoh Beng Hock has indeed make a huge mockery of the public outrage, despondency and quest for justice, accountability and transparency.

The decision of the Cabinet for two separate bodies, namely a royal commission of inquiry (RCI) to investigate the MACC’s standard operating procedure (SOP) on interrogation-cum-investigation and the inquest to determine the cause of Teoh’s death, is at best puzzling and at worst smacks of bad faith.

Given the already very dented image of the judiciary, any attempt at delegating responsibility to the magistrate (especially if he/she is a junior one, as is usually the case in an inquest) who, while acting as a coroner, has to be assisted by the deputy public prosecutor from the A-G’s office is surely very much unwelcomed by the discerning public.

To make it worse, they have to rely on the investigation of the police, an enforcement agency currently very much wanting in integrity and transparency. Going by the many inquest proceedings of the recent past of deaths in custody, no police officials have been found culpable. Most deaths inevitably were classified “natural causes” or “sudden deaths”. So, will the rakyat be again shortchanged?

It should have dawned on Premier Datuk Seri Najib Razak by now that gone are the days when the rakyat is easily mesmerised by big slogans and rhetoric. It was over with Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad and Pak Lah. As for now it is sensible for Najib to understand that if he still insists and bent on shouting slogans, he has just got to live up to them immediately. The rakyat wants to see it in Teoh’s tragic death investigation.

Wouldn’t it be in the best interest of “1 Malaysia, People First, Performance Now” that the Cabinet orders the immediate establishment of a royal commission of inquiry to comprehensively undertake the entire investigation of the SOP of the MACC and the cause of Teoh’s death as the two are, for all intents and purposes, related?

The public not only questions the wisdom or the lack of it in separating the two procedures with their separate terms of reference, but more importantly of the intention to separate the two probes.

Wouldn’t it be in the best interest of “Performance Now” and especially prudent use of taxpayers’ money that the Cabinet orders only one credible and independent RCI of experienced distinguished personalities be instituted as to undertake the comprehensive investigation and everything that surrounded Teoh’s death?

Wouldn’t it also be pertinent in the spirit of “People First” that the Cabinet empathises with the psychological trauma and suffering of the late Teoh’s fiancée and his loved ones as not to subject them to unnecessary further investigation save that of the RCI? Already there were the MACC, PDRM, now perhaps the inquest and finally the RCI. Is that Najib’s style of the mantra “People First”?

Incidentally, you don’t even have to summon a Cabinet meeting to have an inquest in place as it is well provided for by way of provisions in the Penal Code and the Criminal Procedure Code. Are we to conclude that Najib is even weaker and, worse still, more inept than his immediate predecessor? That may spell further doom for this nation.

Many would recall that Pak Lah once had a royal commission in place without having to resort to the Cabinet.

Let it be known to Najib that the rakyat, the citizenry, is less concern of whatever that 1 Malaysia may mean to him and his Cabinet. The real issue now is whether we have what it takes to bring this nation out of the various unending crises and impasse.

The bone of contention now is about strengthening our various “divides” and forge a politically functional administration that upholds the rule of law, democratic values and traditions that manage constructive dissent and differences to propel us into a competitive and viable nation.

The real issue now is not about who can string more big slogans to the already fatigue rakyat, but simply who can inject and attain trust and confidence of the people in reviving all our critical institutions through honesty, integrity and accountability. As BN is still the elected government of the day, it would be wise and pertinent to listen to the voice, resentment, expectation and hopes of the people.

It’s truly not about the vagaries of Najib’s 1 Malaysia, as the tragic death of the Teoh Beng Hock has in fact united the nation into searching our souls of wanting a better Malaysia. That remains the abiding dream of the wira Teoh Beng Hock when he decided to be part of the New Politics of a New Malaysia!

Was Teoh Beng Hock assassinated by the DAP?

A new Blog has emerged called Truth for Teoh Beng Hock which insinuates that the DAP is behind Teoh’s death. It also suggests many other things, all criminal. Invariably, the Umno Blogs and websites are promoting this Blog. Expect soon the mainstream media to go to town on this issue. Before that happens DAP had better be ready with convincing answers.

NO HOLDS BARRED

Raja Petra Kamarudin

This was the first posting in that Blog:

The truth will be revealed

Teoh Beng Hock, the political aide to Selangor State Assemblymen for Seri Kembangan Ean Yong Hian Wah died on July 16th, 2009 after undergoing an 8 hour interrogation by the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission that supposedly ended at 3:45 am.

This blog is established in his rememberance. A young man with ideals, belief, and values caught in a web of political deceipt. The blog is also set-up to cleanse his name. May he be remembered for the right reasons.

Till today, his death remains a mystery. Why did he stayed back to sleepover at the MACC after the claimed interrogation ended? He is supposed to register his marriage with his fiance that day.

Many questions remains as police are investigating his death. There is no record of Beng Hock leaving the premise. MACC should be held responsibile for his death. They should be thoroughly investigated.

Teoh was forced into some unscrupulous dealings. He did not like what he was doing. To protect himself, Teoh made copies of false documents, fictitous public work, and dummy companies. He copied information from his notebook and the office computers into a hard disk and left it with someone. Inside are stack of information detailing the corruption by the DAP in Selangor.

Teoh Beng Hock shall not die in vain. The truth will be revealed.

Then it goes on to say:

The DAP's corruption modus operandi in Selangor

Teoh Beng Hock is dead. Let not his death be forgotten and for nothing. The reason why Teoh died is because of the massive scale of corruption by the DAP since they took over the running of the Selangor state government in March 2008.

For the first time we have documents evidence, names, cheque nos, vouchers and projects which the MACC, the Police, the Royal Commission of Inquiry, the Magistrate Court Inquest, the NGOs, the DAP itself and any member of the public can verify themselves.

The DAP (not the PAS or PKR) has been stealing the rakyat's money in Selangor. They have been doing this without the knowledge of the other Pakatan partners like PKR and PAS. They have cheated not only the rakyat but also their own Pakatan partners from enjoying some of the stolen money.

This is actually not corruption. Corruption means you get money illegally from someone else. In the UMNO style, someone gets a project. Then they pay through a runner 10% or 20%, usually in cash inside a bag. Very simple and also quite smart.

But the DAP are quite stupid. They set up their own dummy companies, create fake invoice, fake projects and then take the money out. This is stealing, not corruption. But because they abuse their power it is also involving corruption. In the process they leave behind a very long trail of documents and evidence.

The late Teoh Beng Hock was involved in this scandal also but he was forced by Ean Yong and Ronnie Liu. He did not really like what was happening. To protect himself, Teoh made copies of all the false documents and dummy companies that was set up by the DAP. Teoh left behind a hard disk with someone which contains a stack of information detailing the corruption by the DAP in Selangor.

They followed a simple but silly method. Each Kawasan DUN (like Kajang, Teratai, Balakong) is given RM500,000 funds which the Pakatan ADUN can spend on projects. The DAP has been stealing this money - a little at a time. Few thousand ringgit at a time. But there are more than 300 small projects - Teoh gave us a long list.

The Selangor govt has said that they will tender every single project. This is their lying. In the list provided by Teoh, some people and some companies sapu many of the projects.

Among the biggest players are WONG CHUAN HOW (in the Kawasan DUN Sungai Pelek) under YB Ronnie Liu who was given 84 projects totalling over RM200,000 (Tarian Cina Persatuan Bahasa, Perayaan Persatuan Buddha Huan Chian Chuen, Kejohanan Bola Keranjang). Other names include Perniagaan Seri Makmur, Era Terbilang Enterprise, Era Gemilang Enterprise and many more. Teoh gave a full list. We have scanned some of the documents (from about 100 pages of documents)

How can one person get 84 different contracts?

The amounts are small but the method they use is very big. This is just in one year. Imagine if the DAP take over the federal govt? Here are some examples how DAP do it. The names and the projects are all real.

Anwar trial delays could boost opposition

Continuing delays in the sodomy trial of Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim could boost the opposition’s political fortunes at a time when the government has the initiative, say analysts.

Anwar’s trial was originally set to start in early July but now looks unlikely to begin before late September after the Kuala Lumpur High Court on Friday granted the prosecution leave to appeal its decision to allow Anwar more access to evidence.

The delay follows a series of pre-trial motions by both the prosecution and defence.

Analysts said the delays would have the end effect of helping to keep Anwar, now the country’s opposition leader, in the public limelight while maintaining pressure on the government and Prime Minister Najib Razak.

“Anwar has not been in the limelight for some time due to other political developments in the country, so delays will keep public attention on him and prolong the political tussle between the government and opposition,” said Ibrahim Suffian, director at the independent polling outfit Merdeka Centre.

Judge Mohamad Zabidin Mohamad Diah on Friday fixed Sept. 2 to decide on the start date for the trial of Anwar, who is accused of sodomising a former male aide in a case which he claims is a repeat of a 1998 political conspiracy against him.

Anwar was charged and convicted of sodomy after being sacked as deputy prime minister 11 years ago. He spent six years in jail before being freed in 2004 after the country’s Federal Court overturned the conviction.

A conviction could end the political career of the 61-year-old and stymie Pakatan Rakyat, a three-party rainbow alliance held together largely by Anwar and which observers say stand their best chance to wrest power from the ruling Barisan Nasional in the next polls due by 2013.

The Pakatan alliance made big gains in general elections last year, denying the Barisan, which has ruled the country for 51 years, its two-thirds parliament rule and control of five of Malaysia’s 13 states.

The government’s losses prompted then Prime Minister Abdullah Ahmad Badawi into early retirement, with his deputy Najib taking over in April.

Najib has seen his approval ratings surge to 65 per cent from 45 per cent, according to Merdeka’s recent poll, after introducing measures to help Malaysia win back investment.

But a public outcry over the death of an opposition lawmaker’s aide after he was allegedly released from questioning by the country’s anti-graft body has led to mounting protests which now threaten to sink the government’s popularity.

A prolonged Anwar trial will create an additional source of concern for the government, but could also create problems for the opposition, which has recently had a bout of infighting.

“Delays mean that scrutiny on the government and Najib will increase and give the opposition more room to plan and strategise, but the opposition’s own inter-party feuds could also spread out during that time,” said Ibrahim. – Reuters

Believing in Malaysia

MY cousin who brazenly identifies herself as a staunch Malay-Muslim conservative remarked that half my Facebook friends seem to be non-Malay, non-Muslim and rather liberal. Well, I replied somewhat irksomely, I would have been living in a box if, after 12 years of merantau, I knew only Malay-Muslim conservatives.

I then went on to emphasise the demographic variety of my list: among my schoolmates there’s a Tibetan Buddhist, a Nigerian Catholic, an American Hindu, a Jew against Zionism (who would don orthodox Jewish robes and march against Israeli aggression), and a smattering who were confirmed into the Church of England. I pointed out that among my Muslim friends there is variety too: there’s my Canadian Ismaili colleague, my Iranian-English Twelver university mate, and my formerly Protestant friend who was so moved by Jalaluddin Rumi that she is now a Sufi.

As my cousin – our shared ancestor is Sultan Zainal Abidin III, who I am told included both Maliki and Shafie scholars in his court – was digesting this, I capped it off by revealing that one of my squash buddies is an atheist who quotes Richard Dawkins’ The God Delusion (not banned in Malaysia) in between points (he will now call me and scream that he is in fact an agnostic).

Speaking with such people about their faith, or lack thereof, is interesting and educational and not, despite the paranoia of “religious” authoritarians everywhere, scary or subversive.

But the tone of my Malaysian Presbyterian friend was rather urgent when, after the story of the Al-Islam reporters who had attended Catholic mass in an undercover investigation emerged, he confided that he too had seen a Muslim in his usual church, and he was worried about his motives. Apparently evidence had been seen confirming that this chap was a Muslim but he would not admit to it, despite the church literature stating “for non-Muslims only”. The concern was that either he was similarly an undercover journalist and thus desecrating the sanctity of the place of worship, or that he was bait who was gathering material that would implicate the church in propagating Christianity among Muslims. If this were successful it would be catastrophic for the church.

The level of distrust was palpable, and I wondered how have we come to this? Why are there Malaysians who are so completely inured with this fallacious “us” and “them” mindset where “their” group must treat the “other” with suspicion or outright hate? Indeed, we were given a nasty dose of such irrationality in the charges of racism following the awful death of Teoh Beng Hock, which was tragedy for all Malaysians.

Several conferences I’ve attended cite the political expediency of deliberately conflating race and religion which has led to a situation where many events in the public sphere are now ostentatiously tinged with division. But there’s more to it than that. It’s not merely that much of the public don’t trust the institutions of state, which is why the calls for a royal commission of inquiry were so loud (I doubt its establishment will satisfactorily assuage those who had great hope for the MACC). But it’s also that the institutions of state don’t trust non-state institutions.

On the fiftieth anniversary of St Andrew’s Presbyterian Church, Tunku Abdul Rahman, the future first secretary-general of the OIC, sent a note of congratulations thus: “All men of goodwill and peace must fight against poverty… so that the children of God may live in peace and share the fruits of prosperity and plenty. I know that St Andrew’s Presbyterian Church is doing all it can to spread the message among Malaysians in all corners of this country and I have no doubt it will succeed. May I wish the church in the coming years all success and the blessing of God.”

What is profound about this statement is not merely that it is a statement of hope but also an indication of trust that non-Muslim Malaysian congregations would contribute to the national cause. This is the same man who, after establishing Perkim, constantly stressed that “Malaysia must continue as a secular state with Islam as the official religion.”

In 1968, the then mentri besar of Negri Sembilan, Tan Sri Datuk Dr Mohd Said Mohamed, laid the foundation stone, blessed by a bishop, of St Mark’s Anglican Church in Seremban. It was being rebuilt after a fire had gutted it, and the federal and state governments made a donation to help in the construction work. That, surely, is what our first Rukun Negara is all about.

Azam Aris, penulis “The Quintessential Man” — biografi bekas Pengerusi Petronas, MAS dan Putrajaya Holdings, Allahyarham Tan Sri Azizan Zainul Abidin — menukilkan kata-kata Allahyarham sebaik sahaja mendengar kenyataan Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad pada 1998 bahawa mata lebam Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim akibat tindakannya sendiri:

Adakah beliau lupa kenyataan Dr Mahathir tentang kes Anwar? Waktu itu pihak polis menjamin Anwar dalam keadaan selamat, namun rupa-rupanya Ketua Polis Negara sendiri, Tan Sri Rahim Noor memukul Anwar. Bukan seorang polis berpangkat rendah, tetapi pegawai polis nombor wahid!

Tiada siapa suka-suka mempertikaikan institusi kerajaan.

Jangan kita lupa, pembongkaran video V.K.

Namun atas kegagalan BN memahami realiti demokrasi, maka mereka berkeras mahu melantik JKKKP sekaligus mengucar-kacirkan masyarakat kampung.

Terbaru sekali, Menteri Pertanian dan Industri Asas Tani merangkap Timbalan Pengerusi Umno Selangor, Datuk Noh Omar melarang pegawai-pegawai Kementeriannya menghadiri mesyuarat-mesyuarat Kerajaan-Kerajaan Negeri Pakatan Rakyat.

Kita mahu kebolehan pegawai-pegawai kerajaan diiktiraf.

Perbicaraan Anwar Ditunda Pada 2 September 2009.....rakyat perlu ingat semula tarikh 2 sept 1998...???

BN caught in a time warp

The Prime Minister has outlined his cabinet's vision for a Malaysia that is to be more united and resilient. He hopes to achieve this by transforming Malaysia into a high income country by increasing productivity through innovation and specialised knowledge.

Thus far, he has yet to reveal how this can be achieved without widening the income gap between ethnic groups and within ethnic groups. To achieve these aims, the government now needs to win hearts and minds. This will not be easy as the BN is caught up in a time-warp.

The question is this: "Can a political arrangement that sprung up in the pre independence struggle still be relevant in 21st century Malaysia?" Tengku Razaleigh Hamzah (left) shed light on the matter, explaining Umno's struggle embodied in Tunku Abdul Rahman, Tun Razak and Tun Ismail.

He believes that one can be a Malay and Malaysian nationalist at the same time. Tengku Razaleigh said that these men showed "......how it (the national cause) could be both Malay and Malaysian, nationalist and cosmopolitan, traditional and contemporary, at one and the same time."

Is this the essence of Malaysia? That we need not compromise our ethnic identities to be thoroughly committed to the national cause? Many politicians will find that hard to accept, and opportunists will dismiss it, sticking to simplistic solutions and blaming other ethnic groups for everything.

Tengku Razaleigh admits that what he is advocating for Umno and Malaysia is idealistic. In our current state of affairs we sorely need a confidence-booster. Morale is at a very low point, and we are in danger of losing our self-confidence as a people.

No confidence in the judiciary

Perhaps we cannot be united totally, but we must believe that we share common aims. That sense that we all belong to one nation is unravelling. Our economy is no longer so buoyant with substantial job losses in manufacturing.

The middle-class is saddled with huge housing loans and many are exposed to heavy credit card debt. Unskilled workers are still eking out their living by doing several jobs for very little financial return.

We look at our institutions and shudder. The recent Perak constitutional crisis does not inspire confidence in our judiciary. Judgements that even a layperson can see are full of holes, do not earn respect.

The brutish behaviour of law enforcement officers, the death of a witness after hours of interrogation over RM2,400 defies logic.

The cabinet decision to pull the plug on MACC's 'Selangor' investigations until the dust has settled over Teoh Beng Hock's (below) sudden death is a clear indication that the government is struggling with a mounting public backlash against it.

The great challenge for the BN is how to convince Malaysians to share some common vision. The first thing it has to do is to build up consensus. The days of imposing one's will onto others, even if one is the mighty Utusan, no longer works.

Nowadays even the staunchest Malay nationalist, if he/she thinks, will begin to have doubts. For example, why have a few privileged Malays become so rich, whilst the majority remain so poor?

Successive leaders blame corruption. In a country where most civil servants are paid such low wages, corruption is bound to be high. Any suggestion of giving them more pay tends to be met with bluster and outrage: Are we rewarding people who are corrupt?

Here, we are seeing only half the picture. For every bribe received, there is someone out there giving bribes, and in most cases this is, in truth, a comfortable symbiosis.

Malaysians had such high hopes for the MACC. It was supposed to be our version of the Hong Kong ICAC, which, if Hong Kong movies are to be believed, is fearless and incorruptible.

But the reality is that it was imposed from outside, and took years to build up its reputation. It took a lot of political will and a lot of pain.Unfortunately, political will is in short supply and the pain threshold is particularly low in Malaysia.

Institutional changes too little too late

What I fear most is that the BN actually does not have time. In fact, time has already run out. KPIs, judicial reforms, royal commission recommendations that are not implemented and other necessary institutional changes now all seem too little too late.

The government must realise that if BN is to ensure its political survival, and carry Malaysia forward, it can no longer entrust its future to "BTN-types". These are the people who will use wonderful slogans like "psy-war" to convince the PM that they can help BN to win the next general election.

They will recommend the breaking up of Pakatan in order to hold on to power. The reality is that they will only bring like-minded friends along with them. The majority of Malaysians will find their racist attitudes out-dated and destructive,
and to many Muslims, "un-Islamic".

If Malaysia is to work, we need to evolve a type of leadership that embodies wholesome, inclusive values as Tunku Abdul Rahman, Tun Razak and Tun Ismail did.

It remains to be seen if the current PM can be, like the late Tunku, "a prince with the common touch", a man of vision with the courage to stick to clear principles. These were the qualities that any Malaysians would admire.

Once again, Tengku Razaleigh has proved to be a wise statesmen, by providing constructive ideas at this critical juncture in our nation's life. Today, when we need idealism and purpose, and it does not seem to be coming from this government.

Malaysia seems to be in danger of moving down, as quickly as Indonesia is moving up. Should that happen, it would be Malaysians who are sending maids over to Indonesia!

YourSay: What is PM's role in this 'witch-hunt'?

'People who have unwaveringly supported the BN government have now decided at last that we need a change in order to reform.'

On Cabinet approves royal commission

GH Kok: The cabinet has finally agreed to set up the royal commission of inquiry. However, as I have expected, the terms of reference of the commission falls far short of what is needed.

As reported in the media, the royal commission is to "look into the MACC's investigative procedures and to determine if there were any human rights violations when Teoh was being interrogated". Well, this is the very least that the royal commission should do but this is surely not enough!

We want to know who gave the instruction to the MACC to launch a witch-hunt against the Selangor Pakatan Rakyat government that triggered a chain of events that led to the torture and death of Teoh Beng Hock.

We know that the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission reports directly to Prime Minister Najib. We want to know what role the prime minister played in this witch-hunt.

We want the head of MACC to take the stand and answer these questions: who instructed him to start hounding the seven Pakatan Rakyat Aduns (state reps)? What instructions did they give him? What did they ask him to do? What did they ask him to find or fabricate as the case may be? What compelled him to order his officers to raid the Aduns service centres, take away files from the district offices, pull up mosque officials in Puchong for questioning, interrogate for eight hours a Kajang municipal councillor, interrogate an Adun's assistant for four hours, and finally cause the death of a courageous young man?

We, the people, want to know the truth. We want to hold the person, at the top of the chain of command, fully responsible for this entire witch-hunt. If it is necessary in order for us to get to the top person responsible, we should offer some immunity to those at the bottom who willingly provide us with the information.

The offer is open. It will not be over until it's over ... royal commission or not!

Richard Teo: Umno's exit from the seat of power has been expedited. This will be BN's last walk in the corridors of power. The events of the last few days have taken a pivotal turn and Najib could be the shortest-term Umno president to be the prime minister of Malaysia. Thanks to MACC which made all this possible.

The groundswell of anger and bitterness at the institution which acted in a manner to topple the Pakatan Rakyat government was overwhelming. People who have unwaveringly supported the BN government have now decided at last that we need a change in order to reform.

It has become obvious that BN's 50 years of being in the government has corrupted all the institution which form the pillar of a democratic nation.

Finally, the act that MACC did was an act that will finally nail the coffin of the BN. The only way BN can reform is to exit from the seat of power and to spend sometime to reflect on its past mistakes. And with some wisdom and past experience, maybe it can make a comeback at some later date.

Farewell BN. We expected you to go after March 8, but we didn't expect it to be so soon.

A Concerned Malaysia: I think the people of Malaysia want JUSTICE to be done to be done to the late Teoh Beng Hock and not a mockery.

I seriously hope that the government will re-examine the royal commission's terms of reference. Although we may have not known Teoh but as a human person who has feelings, we feel very much for what has happened. People all around are very angry and unhappy with what is happening in Malaysia not just in Teoh's case but also in the case of Kugan where justice was not done.

The rakyat has lost faith in the BN. We hope that all those who have been responsible in the death of Teoh will be brought to justice.

JR Lee: Most Malaysians waited patiently for the cabinet to announce the setting up a royal commission to investigate, inter-alia, the death of Teoh Beng Hock. But we were shocked when the cabinet announced that the death of Teoh will not be investigated by the royal commission but only by an inquest headed by a magistrate, a very much lower authority.

Why the discrepancy? Why Teoh's death is not investigated by the royal commission? This is typical of a conspiracy to cover-up. It is definitely against the 1Malaysia principle of 'People First, Performance Now' promulgated by the PM.

It is blatantly clear that it is not 'People First' as Malaysians seeking for the truth wants Teoh's death investigated by the royal commission and the cabinet is also not performing what Malaysians expecting them to do.

The PM is not walking the talk, he is talking more of his walk and expect all Malaysian to believe him!

Bear in mind that Teoh was only a witness to an alleged crime and he lost his life in the hands of MACC. Just imagine if he was a suspect to an alleged crime.

Adcin: The royal commission announced by Najib may on the surface of it look like a smart move by our leader. It buys time for the government and it hopes that the public will move on and pass it all off as some unfortunate accident, when the anger subsides.

The experience of the royal commission on the Lingam tapes must have given heart to them. Except for some jokes at Lingam's expense and a ring tone composed in his honour, absolutely nothing of substance was ultimately achieved.

However they did not realise that they lost a lot of public confidence and in the end votes in the general election.

There will be no jokes this time for Teoh's commission, and the longer it drags on, the worse the effect will be on the government. There are no points that can be won or made for the MACC and their masters. The royal commission may buy some time and even protect some parties, but in reality it is a slow death for Najib and his BN.

We should be happy because all it needed was for Najib to cut to the chase, apprehend and castigate the offenders and revamp the MACC to be more accountable and transparent.

Teoh's death continues to rankle

Although it's been seven days since the tragic death of political aide Teoh Beng Hock, public outrage has not abated as demonstrated at a gathering in Kuala Lumpur last night.

About 3,000 people, mostly clad in black, thronged the Kuala Lumpur Selangor Chinese Assembly Hall, in a show of solidarity for Teoh, who died mysteriously at the Malaysian Anti-Comission Corruption (MACC) building in Shah Alam last week.

DAP's Lim Kit Siang, DAP secretary-general and Penang Chief Minister Lim Guan Eng, PKR vice-president Sivarasa Rasiah and PAS parliamentarian Dr Dzulkefly Ahmad, were among those who part in the gathering which lasted three hours.

Stalks of white chrysanthemums lined the stage, placed there by those attended the event in remembrance of Teoh. His pregnant fiancee, Shoh Sher Wei was given a rousing and spontaneous standing ovation as she walked into the hall which was bedecked with Teoh's photos.

Banners reading 'Don't let Beng Hock die in vain' that bore the crowd's signatures, were also put up on the walls.

Teoh, who was Seri Kembangan assemblyperson Ean Yong Hian Wah's political secretary, was found dead in the corridor on the fifth floor of Plaza Masalam, Shah Alam, last Thursday.

The 30-year-old was believed to have fallen from the MACC office located on the 14th floor.

He was being interrogated as a witness into allegations of misappropriation of Selangor state funds.

Teoh was buried last Monday in Semenyih. Police said that almost 60 percent of the probe into his sudden death was completed.

Speakers take a swipe at royal commission

All the speakers who took to the stage lashed out against the royal commission set up by the government, saying that it missed the point by not investigating Teoh's cause of death.

Prime Minister Najib Razak said that only an inquest will determine his cause of death, but the royal commission confined to get to the bottom of MACC interrogation procedures to determine if Teoh's human rights were violated.

"They (government) said Teoh's human rights might have been violated. But he has died! This is ridiculous. When a person dies, we want to know what were the causes!" said a furious Guan Eng.

"We want to know who the culprits were, who were the witnesses? In any murder case, police investigations will focus catching the person responsible for the death.

"But up until today, has any MACC officer who interrogated him (Teoh) been arrested? No!," said Guan Eng, to thunderous cheers from the crowd.

Robert Tan, who is on MACC advisory panel, expressed shock and anger towards the commission for failing to come up with a clear explanation.

"I'm a 70-year-old man and I never expected this to happen. What the hell is happening? We have 42 advisory panels in MACC board, and you MACC owe us an explanation," he said.

Being on advisory panel himself, Tan was unable to shed light on the matter although the board had met for four days and four nights trying to find out what went wrong.

"And what is the truth? I too, have no idea...but no worries Shor Wer, you have the people's support," he said, looking at Teoh's fiancee who was sitting in front of the stage.

MACC violated lock up rules

According to PAS central committee member Dr Dzulkefly, MACC violated lock-up rules when they interrogated Teoh until the wee hours of the morning.

"Lock-up rules say that authorities should stop investigating witnesses or suspects at 6.30pm and must only resume their interrogation the next day at 6.30am. It is obvious the MACC does not know the rules!" said Dzulkefly.

Kit Siang slammed Minister in the Prime Minister's Department, Nazri Abdul Aziz for having accused Lim of turning Teoh's death into a racial issue as reported in the NST

"They said I regarded MACC as a Malay-controlled institution. But they did not know that when I criticised them, I referred to it as a Malaysian institution. Shame on you NST!

"If Nazri says I'm racist, why did the demonstration that took place in Ampang several days ago only involved Umno people?

"Why weren't they not joined by MCA, MIC or Gerakan to show how '1Malaysia' they are?" he asked.

The highly-charged atmosphere of the night was diffused when Teoh fiancee took to the stage with a simple message that brought back to mind that the loss is a still personal one.

"There is nothing else I can do for him. Thank you all, I promise I would take care of our child," she said holding back her tears.

The gathering also collected donations amounting to RM22,000, which is to be put into 'Teoh's trust fund' set up by the DAP.

Suspek kes 'puaka' UM disoal isu Teoh...!!!! kan dah kata....budak2 UM ni nanti dituduh bunuh Teoh pulak...???

Tuan Guru Nik Aziz bidas Zamry
